Hydraulic cylinder from Olsson Parts

At Olsson Parts, we offer a wide range of hydraulic cylinders for all types of machines and industrial applications. Our cylinders are designed for maximum performance, long service life, and reliable operation – so you can trust that the job will get done.

What is a hydraulic cylinder?

A hydraulic cylinder is a mechanical device that converts hydraulic pressure into linear motion. It is used to lift, push, or pull heavy loads with precision and efficiency.

Main components of a hydraulic cylinder:

  • Cylinder tube – where the piston moves

  • Piston and piston rod – create linear motion

  • Cylinder mounting – different types depending on the installation

Hydraulic cylinders are used in everything from agricultural machinery and construction equipment to industrial robots, and Olsson Parts ensures that every cylinder meets the highest quality standards.

Our types of hydraulic cylinders

  • Cylinder without mounts – for custom installation

  • Cylinder with mounts – with spherical bearings or plain holes

  • Telescopic cylinder – single-acting with multiple stages and long stroke length

Every hydraulic cylinder from Olsson Parts is thoroughly tested for durability and precision.

How to choose the right hydraulic cylinder

When buying a hydraulic cylinder, consider the following:

  1. Ensure correct measurements – stroke length, total length, and mounts
The most important thing is that the cylinder fits where it is supposed to be installed. Measure the stroke length, total retracted length, and check the type of mounts used – for example fork, eye, or spherical bearing. Correct measurements ensure proper function and installation without modifications.

  2. Choose dimensions that provide the right strength and capacity
The cylinder diameter and piston rod diameter determine how much force the cylinder can generate and how durable it is under side load and heavy work. Larger diameter gives more force – a thicker piston rod provides increased durability.
Flow rate determines the cylinder’s movement speed: smaller dimensions mean faster movement.
At olssonparts.com you will find clear measurements that make it easy to select the right specifications for your machine.

  3. Check working pressure and compatibility with the hydraulic system
The cylinder must withstand the machine’s maximum pressure. Check the system’s working pressure and choose a cylinder with sufficient margin for long service life and safe operation. Our cylinders have clearly specified pressure classes to ensure a safe choice.

  4. Ensure connections, port placement, and seals match
Make sure the ports’ thread type and placement match the machine’s hoses and fittings. Incorrect placement can cause unnecessary wear or risk of leakage.
Also choose a cylinder with seals suitable for Nordic climates and demanding environments – all our cylinders are equipped with this.

  5. Choose the right function – single-acting or double-acting
Base your choice on how the cylinder operates in your application:
    • Single-acting: Force in one direction, common in tipping and simple lifting. Return via gravity.
    • Double-acting: Force in both directions, most common on agricultural and construction machinery.
All double-acting cylinders can be adapted to function as single-acting.

Maintenance tips for hydraulic cylinders

With regular maintenance, your cylinder will last longer and operate safely under tough conditions.

  • Keep the piston rod clean from dirt, dust, and rust to protect the seals
  • Lubricate mounting points and joints regularly to reduce wear
  • Check hoses and fittings to ensure they don’t rub or cause side load
  • Make sure the hydraulic system oil is clean and replaced as recommended
  • Inspect the cylinder frequently to detect early signs of leaks or damage
  • Replace seal kits and spare parts when needed
