Olsson Parts guarantees the supply of spare parts in troubled times

At a time characterised by unstable supply chains, extreme weather and armed conflict, farmers and contractors around the world are also being affected. To safeguard access to important spare parts, Olsson Parts has chosen its own path, comprising Swedish warehouses, in-house production and strong European cooperation.

When society is put to the test, for example by fragile supply chains, extreme weather or armed conflict around the world, farmers and contractors in our part of the world are also affected. With flows slowing, prices rising and essential spare parts at risk of becoming scarce, there is a need for stable solutions.

Large stocks and in-house production provide independence
In recent years, Olsson Parts has expanded its warehouse, introduced adaptation and some in-house production in Ellös, and works primarily with European and Swedish suppliers.
– A good example is our Volvo BM clutch, which is machined entirely in Sweden and is based on the reuse of older parts, says Håkan Ekstrand, CEO of Olsson Parts.
As part of its efforts to strengthen its independence, the company has started producing components that are no longer available on the market, with technology that allows for future scaling-up if necessary. This is making Olsson Parts a stable player in the European chain for the supply of spare parts for agriculture, construction and key social functions.
– We’re not just building up stock – we’re building security, says Håkan Ekstrand. When we manufacture and stock parts in Sweden, we do so in order that our customers can rely on us, regardless of what is going on in the outside world.

European quality – locally sourced not only in the supermarket
Olsson Parts specialises in spare parts and equipment for tractors and construction machinery. The business is founded on Swedish values such as reliability, a long-term approach and proximity to the customer and the machines. The products are used in machinery that often forms the backbone of our food supply, our infrastructure – and our emergency preparedness.
– We think it’s time to talk more about the Sweden brand, but also about Europe, says Håkan Ekstrand. Locally sourced is not only something we should think about in the supermarket. When spare parts for tractors and excavators are close at hand, society’s core operations work well. And when they are working, Sweden works too.

Building for crisis entails preparedness for the future
Even before the pandemic years, Olsson Parts had built up a large stock with good safety margins. Experiences from the coronavirus crisis, the war in Ukraine and the blockage of the Suez Canal have shown that this strategy works.
– We coped well during the pandemic because our warehouse was already prepared to handle disruptions. We haven’t needed to look for spare parts on the other side of the world – we’ve stayed in Ellös and put together packages for farmers and machinery contractors in Sweden and around Europe, says Håkan Ekstrand.
The majority of the company’s assortment is sourced from European suppliers – with many parts also being produced in Sweden. Here in Ellös, the company manufactures its own components for older tractor models, such as the Volvo BM, which are otherwise no longer available.
– Our aim is to do what farmers have always done – to stock up the barns. This is both a way of being prepared, as well as taking responsibility for the future, says Håkan Ekstrand.
In order to reduce dependence on the outside world and to be even more robust, Olsson Parts has also started manufacturing certain parts itself in Ellös – above all those that are otherwise no longer available on the market. The production process has been designed so that it can be scaled up as needed.

A strong Europe in transition
Olsson Parts is a Swedish company, but it is not alone in its work. Close cooperation with European suppliers ensures both good access to spare parts as well as high levels of quality. At the same time, Håkan Ekstrand stresses the importance of doing business in a fair and responsible way:
– We only work with companies that share our values – respecting people, working conditions and the environment. This kind of cooperation builds trust – something that is becoming even more valuable in an uncertain world. Recent years have shown how quickly things can change. That’s why strong European ties are more important now than ever.
