Massey Ferguson oil change – how to change the oil yourself

Changing the oil on your Massey Ferguson doesn't have to be difficult or time-consuming. In fact, it's one of the single most important maintenance tasks you can do yourself to extend the life of your tractor.

no matter what model of Massey Ferguson you have. Whether you're driving an older classic like the mf 35, a mf 135 or a more modern tractor such as the mf 5435 or any other, the basic principle is the same: the right oil, the right filter and regular maintenance. The differences are mainly male part of the oil quantity and exact specifications - not the actual work involved.
– Many people are surprised at how single it actually is. If you have the right stuff at home, an oil change doesn't take long at all, says Tommy Abrahamsson, senior technical adviser at Olsson Parts.Changing the oil regularly makes a large difference. The engine oil not only lubricates. It also protects against wear, radiates the engine and helps to keep it clean from particles and deposits. As oil ages, these properties deteriorate, which in the long run can lead to unnecessary wear and tear and, in the worst case, engine problems.
– For most Massey Ferguson tractors, an oil change should take place somewhere between 100 and 250 hours of operation or at least once a year. If you do a lot of driving in dusty environments or with heavy loads, it may be wise to do it more often. It's a small insert that can save you large amounts of money, says Tommy Abrahamsson.

Checklist - what you need

Basic equipment:

  • Engine oil
  • Oil filter
  • Collection container
  • Tools (standard)

Step-by-step: How to change the oil

  1. Warm up the tractor so that the oil gets hot and drains more easily.
  2. Put the tractor safely on a flat surface. Switch off the engine oil and hitch the parking brake.
  3. Place a container under the drain plug, screw the plug loose and allow the oil to drain out the whole way.
  4. Replace the oil filter
    - Screw off the old filter
    - Lubricate the gasket on the new filter
    - Fit the new filter
  5. Screw in the oil plug and fill with new oil according to the recommended amount and check with dipstick
  6. Start the engine, check for any leaks and check the oil level again.

Why is regular oil change important?

  • Longer engine life
  • Reduced risk of downtime
  • Lower fuel consumption
  • Stable operation in all working conditions

When to change the oil?

Recommended intervals:

  • After 100-250 hours of operation
  • At least once a year

    Change more often if you:

  • Drive in dusty environments
  • Heavy loads on the tractor
  • Often drive short distances

 Which oil to use?

  •  High quality diesel engine oil
  •  Meets the right API rating
  •  Check your tractor's workshop manual/instruction manual to make sure you are topping up with oil of the right viscosity.

How much oil goes in a Massey Ferguson?

  •  Small tractors: approx. 6-8 litres
  •  Medium-sized: approx. 8-12 litres
  •  Larger models: up to 15 litres or more

Always check the tractor's workshop manual/instruction manual for the exact amount.
